Caring for your fine art photography
Light, Temperature and Humidity
Too much direct light may cause fading, discoloration and changes in the texture of your prints, altering the look and feel of your fine art photography. Avoid strong light levels. Display your fine art photography in an area where it’s not exposed to direct sunlight. Also avoid high levels of artificial light such as halogen lights and spotlights. Please note that color print of fine art photography is more sensitive to light than black and white prints.
High levels and fluctuations of temperature and humidity may be harmful to your
fine art photography as well. Try to avoid them as much as possible. Too much humidity causes discoloration, fading and an uneven surface as well as mold growth. Exposure to strong heat is also liable to damage the color and texture of the contemporary art photography. We recommend you keep your prints away from fireplaces and direct sun and high levels of artificial light. Do not hang them in bathrooms or kitchens where they might be damaged by moisture.
Chemicals and dirt removal
It is advisable to keep
fine art photography away from contact with chemicals, which may cause discoloration and fading of photographic images. Use a delicate soft brush to remove surface dirt from your prints. More thorough cleaning of the work should be done professionally.
Framing and storage
To ensure your
contemporary art photography is maintained in the best possible conditions for the longest possible time, use only acid -free framing and mount materials. Make sure a window mat is placed between the print and the glass in the frame. It is best to use only acid free adhesive tape to hold your print in place, not standard masking tape and scotch tape, which can leave stains.
It is advisable to use UV resistant, non-shatter glass that is not pressed tightly on the surface of the fine art photography to avoid damage to your print. Consult your professional framer about the selection of the frame most suitable for your print. |
