Statement:
I have deep faith in my artistic way. My approach to art has always been cultural, intellectual and personal. I am aware of current trends in the world of visual art, but I feel that the most important thing for me is to explore my own way.
My artistic motto is: “Without reality we would have no dreams and without dreaming we wouldn't be able to change reality”. I have come to realize that this is the cycle I go through when I am working on my art. I believe in art that is above time. Art for me is a mixture of a strong idea and high skills.
About the Moleskin Sketch Book:
'The attached presentation (40 self portraits) is a result of more than 22 years of painting. This project was inaugurated for my 40th birthday and is intended to be continued on my 50th birthday (50 self portraits), 60th birthday, and so on…
The concept behind this work is a reflection of each decade in my life and art through self portraits. This gift that I am giving myself every decade has to be completed in a short time and by very intense work. I made the 40 self portraits in my sketch book, which is the same type of sketch book that served Van-Gogh. Painting those self portraits in front of the mirror in my studio and discovering another layer and color within me every day was an exciting inner journey for me. I believe that it is a unique and important piece in my artwork body.' Gad Apotecker
